FAL Q2

Let's do this! Finish-A-Long, Q2 is just about to get underway at She Can Quilt, and what's the worst that can happen? That I maybe don't finish something? Unheard of! I'm sure that's never happened to any of us, right?​

I mean, that's never scared us off from trying. That's what I meant to say... So as we enter into the second quarter of 2013 how will it differ from the first quarter? Let's see...​ Well, for one I'm not starting out with any pot holders in progress. You'll thank me later ;-)

1.​ & 2.

​By air, land or sea.

​A modern crib quilt (I believe)

I'm going to sandwich, quilt and bind a couple of different kids quilts whose tops are already pieced.​

3.​

I WILL finish this little guy! As I think I've mentioned before, I got hung up on the quilting since I decided to quilt in circles, but I just need to persevere and get it done.​

4.​

​The tea cozy that ate the PNW

​I've unsewn the binding and corner seams as documented here, but it's long past time to cut this thing down to size and finish it up again so it can go live in the home for which it was intended. LONG past time, so this is a must-do for me!

These are for a guild challenge in conjunction with Michael Miller Fabrics. Check out those neons! I don't know if this is technically considered a current WIP as I have prewashed the fabrics and have a sketch done but haven't begun any cutting or sewing.

One of these days I will quilt and finish this piece. And when better to do it than in the next 3 months? At the very least I just bought enough batting to tick this one off along with the others mentioned earlier in the post, so that's something, right?​

I think that should cover me for a while. Now, don't be surprised if you see other projects hopping in from time to time. That's just the nature of the game and I don't know how to play any other way. But perhaps when June rolls around I'll be able to post each and every one of these projects in a mosaic saying, "Look what I finished!!!​" So to start that out I'm going to link up on Leanne's blog with the rest of the self-challengers for Finish-A-Long, Quarter 2!

FAL Q1 - A Look Back

As the first quarter of 2013 wraps many quilting bloggers are assessing ​their progress by way of the 2013 Finish-A-Long, hosted by Leanne of She Can Quilt. There are already many links posted which I'm eager to take in over the next few days, and I'm glad I went back to read the instructions again, as this is a bit different than other link parties I've seen! 

My initial post, found here, listed essentially 7 items, and I have to say I did better than I realized as I went.​ I can say that I got a true completion on 4 of those (grouping the mass of pot holders as one listing), and of the remaining 3 items, 2 are underway. I hit a hiccup with quilting the pink and green baby quilt, wanting to do circles or bubbles, but not having the proper technique down. Thinking I'll need to employ a compass to mark my quilt. Worse things have happened.

Whether I'll be continuing on for the second quarter, that is still up in the air. I know that I work better with deadlines, but the self-imposed kind don't always pull muster. In the mean time I'll enjoy looking through other people's successes and upcoming goals linked over at She Can Quilt.​

Finish A-Long 2013, Q1

As I briefly mentioned in my previous WIP Wed. post (and as I am sure many many of you other quilty bloggers out there are also doing), I've decided to join in the online FAL 2013 for this first quarter. We'll see how my follow-through is before I commit any further ;-)

This Finish A-Long tradition was begun last year by Rhonda of Quilter in the Gap and is being hosted this year by Leanne of She Can Quilt. Essentially it's a forum for keeping up on one's own and others' crafting goals for the next 3 months. What are you going to put out there to the world and say, "THIS IS going to be complete next time we meet again!"? And by complete, they really mean completed!

So, here is my list for the next few months. And perhaps there will even be other projects sneaking in before the end of the quarter... but I certainly don't want to get ahead of myself (as it is, I am already wondering if I am up to all of the basting and quilting I've set myself up for).

1.) Power through the stack of pot holders I have going. I currently have 12 pairs in progress.

2.) Mystery wall-hanging project... stay tuned!

3.) My icy-cool diamond throw quilt

4.) And maybe the warmer russet one as well??

5.) My smaller Warm/Cool quilt along quilt from Jeni's QAL last year (or was it more than a year ago??)

6.) This cute little preppy elephant lattice baby quilt

7.) This one is a bit more amorphous... among my goals is to successfully "print up" a pattern or two from my own designs. Skill-building at its core!

Okay, if I'm to have any hope at all of getting through this list I suppose I ought to wrap up this post and get to the sewing machine! Good luck to all of my fellow quilters in your endeavors this year! I look forward to seeing all of the beauties y'all produce that offer me so much inspiration every day!
